Disaster Girl #1

It's been a quite a day today.. My work currently quite hectic.. juggling between developing children media resources for disaster management, managing the upcoming CBDM (community based disaster management) films, CBDM Facilitator Handbook meeting & other little things random CBDM stuff.. For your information, out of 6 team members of the CBDM department (including a coordinator and a manager), Im the only girl on the team.. So thats kinda interesting ya..But our bosses, which is the Executive Director and Development Director are women. Those ladies happen to be one of the closest people i have in Bali, they're like my sisters/moms.

Working in a small organisation that only has about total around 25 staff in our Ubud office (we have a branch office in Aceh which is actually bigger about 60 staff) is actually kinda interesting and fun.We are like this one big family. Lately we've been having quite a lot of farewells since the turnover of staff in our organisation is quite high coz we have lots of international volunteers, as well as peope just keep finding circumstances where they have to leave us.. Oh well, i think i am so used to farewells since when I was in Perth, farewells are like your monthly salary, they happened regulary... (am i right my friends??!!)

Oh well.. what i wanted to write actually was all this exciting projects that I'm doing at work.. Do you know that we just developed 5 disaster puppet films (like Sesame Street type) for teaching Indonesian kids & their community about disasters (earthquake, tsunami, flood & landslide, volcano & social conflict)... Sorry, im not doing promotion but it's seriously really cool.. So IDEP worked together with this Irish based NGO called No String (www.nostrings.org.uk). The founders of No Strings are actually the same people behind the Muppet Show. So this disaster films that we got are all made in New York. So we have a training of facilitator like 3 weeks ago in Sanur to launch this films as well as learning (from the New York Puppeteers) how to be trained Puppeteer. So I am now 'sort of' certified as Puppeteers. We did a trial on a primary school in Sanur, trust me is not an easy job to be puppeteers. Puppets are heavy and you have to do a lot of practices (oops..just remind myself that i havent done any practice since we finished the training)

Anyway, better stop talking now.. I dont want to make you bored with all these work related stories i have. Well this is because currently what my life revolve around, which work...work..work.. But i really thank God for this work i am doing.. As i have mentioned before, I really enjoy what I do & I learn so much... Okay, i promise i will not talk about work on my next post...

Ciao

It's ok talking about your work on blog, many people does. To know what people doing by reading a blog from the place/background you never know is interesting.

I'm wonder how the puppet look a like... maybe you can upload some picture? :)
